quaker vs kashi
For a long time, my chewy granola bar of choice was the Quaker Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, with less sugar. During finals week, my friend offered me a Kashi bar, cherry dark chocolate. I accepted it, although with some hesitation because I assumed that it would be higher in calorie than I would have liked. [...]

souper salad
Growing up with Fresh Choice, my family never went to Souper Salad, except once, long ago, and my blurry memory tells me that the buffet was pretty skimpy. Last night, I went there for the first time in over a decade, and my impression remains the same (although Patrick begs to differ). The cost is [...]

cinnamon sugar puff cupcakes
School started today but I don’t have class Mondays (or Fridays, for that matter), so the first day of class starts tomorrow-ish. Later today, if you wish to be accurate. I bake therapeutically, so I thought what better way to start the school year with a relaxing session of cupcake baking from my new book, [...]

clif bars- pear apple strudel
Although this post is coming late because this flavor is a seasonal flavor, it may not be too late for those who are interested; I picked one up at Central Market about two weeks ago. This is by far my favorite flavor, although I haven’t tried all of them yet. I was pretty content with [...]

For my [...]

taco deli
Its been a while since I’ve tried a new place to eat in Austin, I must admit. I’m pretty loyal to my usuals and usually I think about what I want to eat wayyy ahead of time so I identify what I crave and know exactly where I’ll go for it. However, today for lunch, [...]

european candies
Going to Central Market with my friend Rosa, an avid candy blogger, inevitably meant a hold-up at the candy section. Her excitement and my curiosity got the better of me and I gave in to buying two pieces of candy. Note: these aren’t candies manufactured in the US so they have a foreign appeal and [...]

jelly roll cake
Saturday morning my mom was called upon to make a cake/dessert for a party. Of course it was a Chinese party and so we set to make one of the usual Chinese desserts. Its a traditional Chinese cake, not very sweet at all and very fluffy and light. This description would make you believe this [...]

deliciously delicious
This post is in honor of my awesome friend Laura, who was just in town visiting and of course, when she got back to Dallas, baked a delicious looking cake that alas, I can not taste. Its a chocolate cake with a custard topping and sliced peaches (recipe to come). Laura’s favorite part was the [...]
